In order for people to learn, live, and work together in a productive, safe, and comfortable environment, appropriate behavior is necessary. Alpine School District, Mount Mahogany Elementary, and each class has established realistic and reasonable guidelines for all students to follow, so learning can take place without disruption.

Schools are established for the benefit of all students. The educational purposes of schools are accomplished best in a climate of student behavior which is socially acceptable and conducive to the learning and teaching process. Student behavior which disrupts this process or which fringes upon the rights of other individuals will not be tolerated.

Minor problems are handled by the classroom teacher through discussions with the student. Repeated disruptive incidents will be referred to the principal. When a student is referred to the principal the course of action will be taken:

1st Visit - discussion with student about problem.
2nd Visit - call to parents.
3rd Visit - in school suspension.
4th Visit - out of school suspension.

Following is a brief summary of reasons for suspension established by the Board of Education:

• Steals or attempts to steal school or private property.
• Causes, attempts to cause, or threatens damage or harm to school, school property, or another person.
• Threatens the use of any real, look alike, or pretend weapon, incendiary device or dangerous object.
• Possesses, uses, sells or otherwise furnishes or is is under the influence of any controlled substance.
• Possesses, or uses tobacco.
• Commits an obscene act or engages in habitual profanity or vulgarity.
• Frequent or flagrant willful disobedience, defiance of proper authority or disruptive behavior.
• Is truant from school.
