Principal's Message | Kindergarten | First Grade | Second Grade In 2001 the patrons of Alpine School District approved a $200 million bond. At that time a promise was made to be accountable for those funds. As principal, I want to take this opportunity to share with you what has happened in the last five years with bond projects. Five elementary schools have been built and are open. An additional three elementary schools will open in the fall of 2006. In addition, three high schools have completed major remodeling projects. Many of our older schools have new energy -efficient window and air-conditioning. New multipurpose rooms and kitchens have been added to some elementary schools. Satellite buildings have been replaced with brick and mortar classroom additions. All these improvements have been possible because of your support of pubic education. Detailed information including a complete listing of all bond projects and pictures can be found on the web site at: http://www.alpine.k12.ut.us/depts/maint/construction. A second commitment was to communicate information on growth and additional future needs. Student enrollment was projected to increase from 8,000 to 10,000 students in a 5-7 year period of time. Actual fall enrollment on October 3, 2005 was 54,773, which was an increase of 6,506 students in five years. Current projections indicate an increase of 8,144 students in the next four years. As growth continues, the Board of Education is studying additional needs, which includes a new high school, additional elementary schools and possibly an additional middle school.
The First Grade would like to invite everyone to Who-ville to feel the spirit of the holiday season as we present our program, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Our performances will be on Tuesday, December 13 at 1:30 p.m. for the whole school, and 7:00 p.m. for parents and families. Now that the weather has turned colder, we would appreciate your help in making sure your child comes to school with a coat and is prepared to go outside for recess. It would also be helpful if names were put inside coats, hats, and gloves or mittens to make it easier for the students to keep track of them. We know that December is an exciting month with lots of distractions, but it is important that your child reads every day, especially during the Christmas break to be ready for the mid-year reading benchmark test in January. Have a Who Happy Holiday Season! Second grade has had a busy month of November! We’ve been studying coins, coupons and combinations in math, had some great science rotations, and enjoyed dressing up for and celebrating a Thanksgiving feast. We also went on a field trip to see the play “Robin Hood” at Pleasant Grove Junior High. In December, we’re looking forward to a right jolly old time learning about new cultures and holidays celebrated around the world. Thank you for all the help and support you give your children, especially for the efforts you make in the oh-so-important daily reading!
The 5th Grade Christmas store will be starting on December 5th through December 7th. Students have created advertising and merchandise as part of their economics unit. They will have hands-on practice with selling, stocking shelves, security, and using the cash register. The Grand Opening is Monday from 1:15 to 2:10 because of our early-out schedule. The Tuesday/Wednesday store hours are from 8:15 A.M. until 4:00. Mrs. Parry's and Mrs. Jensen's classes would like to thank all the parents who donated plants and lights for us to use during the Wax Museum. We had a lot of fun. The students are studying the colonial period of American History. Parents, please remind your children to wear proper winter clothing to keep warm during recess.
Here are some safety tips for you and your children while using the computer and the internet. These, and more, can all be found at NetSmartz.org. I encourage you to take the time to look at this site with your children and talk about the rules you have in your home for internet safety.
