School Evacuation Procedures

If the school ever needed to be evacuated the student body would assemble on the east grounds of the school. If needed, our alternative site to assemble would be the LDS Garden Stake Center located at 1028 West 1000 North in Pleasant Grove.

If a major disaster occurred, during regular school hours, all teachers and staff members would remain at school to care for students until picked up by parents or authorized individuals. Students who ride the bus would be delivered to their normal bus stops. If they didn’t have access to their homes or emergency homes they would be delivered back to the school until picked up by parents or authorized individuals.

An emergency release form was included in the packet of information that was sent home on the first day of school. This form lists individuals who would be authorized to pick up your child(ren), if you as the parent were unable to do so, in case of such an event. If you have not returned this form would you please do so as soon as possible.

We will have practice evacuations (lock down, fire, earthquake, etc.) periodically during the year so staff members and students we will be familiar with correct procedures. As of to date we have had two fire drills and one lock down drill. The drills went well and all students and teachers responded in the appropriate manner.

Thanks to the PTA

I would like to thank the PTA for the fun and enjoyable Walk-A-Thon that was held. The students and staff had a terrific time. Mr. Thomas, Mrs. Atkinson and myself had a lot of fun “rocketing” candy of the roof to reward the students for their efforts!

Also, for the benches that were purchased for the playground. They are a great addition.

Mr. Westover

Kindergarten

We want to thank all parents who came to Parent Teacher Conferences. We appreciate being able to meet with you. Thanks to our room mothers and parent volunteers who went on the Kindergarten field trip. Our Hee Haws Farm trip turned into a fun Ice Cream field trip because of the weather! We got to go to Cold Stone ice cream store and learn about cows and how ice cream is made. We made butter and tasted yummy ice cream. Thanks Cold Stone! We also learned about bus safety and went through a "bus" car wash!

In November we will be learning about the first Thanksgiving, Pilgrims and Indians. The Kindergarten classes are going to eat Thanksgiving lunch in the lunch room on Thursday, November 18th. The price for the student lunch is $1.30. Lunch money will need to be paid to the teacher by November 16th. Please send your child's lunch money in an envelope with his/her name on it.

During November we will continue working on letter names and sounds, counting, making patterns, and writing letters, numbers and our names. We appreciate all the time and help you give your child working on these important skills at home. Thanks!

First Grade

Greetings from first grade! We would like to give a special thanks to all the parents who have been helping with the PTA book room. It is so important for first graders to read every night, and thanks to you they have a book they can read. Halloween is such a fun time of year. Our classes have been talking about having a Halloween party since September. So thanks to all of the parents who spent time and money to make the parties so fun.

Coming up in November the first graders will be performing in the Student of the Month Assembly on November 15th. Our character value is fairness, and our color is orange. On the day of the assembly please have your student wear orange to help us with our performance. Parents are invited to the assembly it starts at 9:30 Thanks for all you help.... and remember to keep reading!

Second Grade

October was full of "spooky" fun for the Second Grade. We had our first grade level rotation. For our rotations each class spends time with a different teacher learning about a science, health, or social studies topic. We also spent time studying one of our favorite Halloween creatures, Bats. Before UEA break we had our class Halloween parties. We would like to thank all of the parents who helped to make our parties great! On November 9th we will attend the play, "The Emperor's New Clothes," at the Pleasant Grove Jr. High.

Third Grade

Thanks to all of the parents who came to SEP’s! We appreciate your support. Third graders had the opportunity to perform at Octobers ‘Student of the Month’ assembly. We learned a lot about why it’s “Hot to Not” make bad choices. We practiced a lot for our performance, but in the end it was worth it! We also started rotations this month, so the students are getting to know all of the third grade teachers! The students have learned about map skills, the bones in our body, keeping our heart and body healthy, having a positive attitude, and have had great P.E activities. We are looking forward to our Indian Pow Wow in November!

Fourth Grade

The fourth grade just finished up a unit of study on the physical features of Utah.  It was exciting to see how much we learned about our great state.  We have begun studying Utah government and  learning a little about our national government and the election process.  All fourth graders will be able to vote for the candidates of their choice in voting booths at school.  Cool!

Our book selections this month have centered around the genre mystery and suspense.  During classroom reading we have had a great time with Roald Dahl's book, Witches, and other fun mysteries.  In math we are just finishing up a unit that focused on multiplication and division.

It was wonderful to meet with so many parents at SEPs.  We couldn't do what we do without you.  Thank you.

Fifth Grade

Mr. Dominguez's and Mr. Miner's classes are beginning to prepare for their Christmas Store in December. Guest speakers will be coming to lecture on business and free enterprise. Mrs. Parry's and Mrs. Jensen's classes are preparing for their Wax Museum in December. Students are to read a biography of a famous historical American to prepare for this.

Fifth grade rotation has begun. Mrs. Parry's class is learning recorders, Mrs. Jensen's class is studying electricity and magnetism, Mr. Dominguez's class is learning about earth science, and Mr. Miner's class is studying heredity.

We appreciate meeting with all of the parents/guardians at Parent Teacher Conferences. Please contact us if you were unable to meet with us, and we will reschedule. Please contact us if you have questions about report cards which will be passed out November 5th. A special thanks for all of the volunteers who helped organize the Halloween Party! :-)

Sixth Grade

We would like to thank all the parents who attended SEPs with their student. We apologize for the waits some of you experienced, but each teacher saw 66 out of 77 sets of parents during those 2 nights. That's a lot of talking! We encourage you to take advantage of PowerSchool and use the internet to check your student's progress. You can even set it up to send you regular emails so you don't have to log on. (Your student's report card has their ID and password information.) In November we study ancient civilizations in Social Studies, our solar system in Science, finish up data and graphs and move on to geometry in Math and continue our Language Arts and Reading. One of the best things you can do for your student is to encourage daily reading at home. Good reading skills help in every subject. Congratulations to those students who made the "A" Team!! Just a reminder as we head into winter to remember coats, hats, and other necessities for cold weather. Here's to a great month!

Computer Lab

Things are moving along in the computer lab. Kindergarten just finished creating a class slide show and will now be doing programs to help with their reading skills. First grade is going full force on their math skills now while second grade continues to improve on the keyboard. Third, fourth, and fifth are still working on keyboarding technique, maintaining the proper posture and using the proper fingers. When your children are working on the computer at home, have them practice what we are learning. And sixth grade is broadening their computer skills.
