Miss Giles, M.Ed.

Computer and Education Background

I am a self declared computer geek. While at high school in Texas I took a computer science/programming class and have been hooked ever since. After lettering in computers my senior year of high school, I continued with computer programming in college at BYU, minoring in computer science teaching and getting my bachelor's degree in elementary education.

My student teaching was at a private school in Colonial Juarez, Mexico. I taught third and fourth grade, a little bit of second, and brushed up on my Spanish.

I recently finished a Masters of Education degree in math and technology at the University of Utah. And will soon be pursing a Doctorate degree in learning theory.

All growing up, I wanted to be a teacher, and I feel like I am one of the lucky few who get to live their dream.

Family

My parents currently reside in Indiana. My dad works in hospital administration and my mom writes children's poetry. My brother graduated from Rice University in Civil Engineering and History and, after a year on a fellowship following the route of the Portuguese explorer Vasco De Gama, is working on his graduate degrees in civil engineering at the University of Illinois. My sister graduated from Baylor University and is teaching fifth grade just north of Austin, Texas.

Outside of School

When I'm not at school, I'm a participant in Utah County's theater community. I've performed in six shows since starting at Mount Mahogany, in Provo, Orem, and Pleasant Grove. I do long distance running, quilting, amateur photography and dance. And of course I'm always in the middle of at least one book.
